Optional & Recommended Coverages

Below are optional coverages you can consider to enhance your protection, along with some specific coverage recommendations depending on the specific services you provide.  If you’d like to add any optional coverage, just let our office know.

  • Increased coverage for customers’ pets is available as follows:
    • $15,000 per pet/$75,000 per occurrence =$99/year
    • $20,000 per pet/$100,000 per occurrence =$154/year
  • Increased Liability limits available. $57/year for each additional $1,000,000 of coverage. You have the following options for a higher limit:
    • $3,000,000 for $57/year (minimum recommended for on-leash walking)
    • $4,000,000 for $114/year (minimum recommended for international online dog training/consultations)
    • $5,000,000 for $171/year (minimum recommended for off-leash walking)
  • On-Leash Dog Walking: We see a higher incidence of larger injury lawsuits involving dog walkers, even those only doing on-leash walking, and we recommend you consider a minimum of a $3,000,000 liability limit because of this.
  • Off-Leash Dog Walking (including using off-leash parks): We see a much higher incidence of significant injury lawsuits for walkers doing off-leash dog walking and we recommend you consider a minimum of a $5,000,000 liability limit because of this.
  • Overnight Pet Sitting – If you are doing overnight pet sitting, the policy includes a $500,000 limit automatically for Tenants Legal Liability coverage to cover damage to your customer’s home. You should consider if this limit is sufficient to rebuild the homes you stay in. If you are responsible for damage caused to a customer’s home, you’ll want a high enough Tenants Legal Liability limit to cover the cost to rebuilt it.  As an example, a $1,000,000 Tenant’s Legal Liability is available for an additional $150/year.
  • International Online Dog Training: We recommend you consider a minimum of a $4,000,000 liability limit to have protection that is more suitable for the higher risk of having customers in the US where they are more prone to taking legal action, awards are often much higher, and considering that your current Canadian liability limit is worth about 30% to 40% less in the US.
  • Consider adding Equipment Breakdown coverage to protect your equipment against damage from electrical disturbances (like power surges) and more importantly, it covers the lost profit & pays ongoing expenses, like your salary, if you’re closed due to the equipment breakdown.  For more information on this coverage, click here.  Premiums start at $56/year.
  • Cyber Incident & Online Content Coverage. A separate policy is available to cover ransomware, negotiating with cyber extortionists, loss of business caused by your computer system or website being hacked, data restoration, fraudulent electronic transfers of funds from your bank account, and liability for online content such as videos, blogs, streaming, or social media posts that result in allegations of libel, slander, defamation, copyright infringement, plagiarism, or misappropriation of ideas.  For more information on this coverage, click here.  Premiums start around $550/year.
  • Groomers, Dog Trainers, Pet First Aid Instructors Errors & Omissions Liability – this is the coverage needed if you want protection against lawsuits alleging a financial loss was caused by a grooming error (ie. your client’s dog does poorly at a conformation show) or by incorrect or deficient training (ie. your client or student losing money because of a mistake made during training). If you are interested, a separate policy would be required, which, if available, tend to have premiums starting around $1,000 per year.

Keep in mind that a PROfur policy is specialized.  Our service team focuses on insuring pet care professionals so we’re able to provide quick service & ensure your policy gives you the best protection on the market at a cost-effective price.
